Target Information
Glutathione S-transferase M3 (brain), also known as GSTM3, is an enzyme encoded by the GSTM3 gene in humans. It belongs to the mu class of glutathione S-transferases, which play a role in detoxifying electrophilic compounds such as carcinogens, drugs, and oxidative stress products via conjugation with glutathione.
The mu class genes are organized in a cluster on chromosome 1p13.3 and exhibit high polymorphism, influencing individual susceptibility to toxins and drug response. Mutations in this gene class have been associated with a slight increase in certain cancers due to environmental toxin exposure.
