Target Information
This gene encodes the major vault protein, a lung resistance-related protein. Vaults are multi-subunit structures possibly involved in nucleo-cytoplasmic transport. The protein mediates drug resistance, potentially via a transport process. It is widely distributed in normal tissues and overexpressed in multidrug-resistant cancer cells. Overexpression may serve as a useful marker of clinical drug resistance. Two transcripts are produced using alternative exon 2 sequences; both share the same open reading frame.
