Target Information
The Major Vault Protein (MVP) gene encodes a lung resistance-related protein. Vaults are multi-subunit structures potentially involved in nucleo-cytoplasmic transport. MVP mediates drug resistance, possibly via a transport process, and is widely distributed in normal tissues. It is overexpressed in multidrug-resistant cancer cells, making it a useful marker of clinical drug resistance. This gene produces two transcripts using alternative exon 2 sequences, but both share the same open reading frame.
