Target Information
Arylsulfatase F (ARSF) is a 590 amino acid secretory protein belonging to the sulfatase family of bone and cartilage matrix proteins. It uses calcium as a cofactor for reactions crucial to bone composition maintenance. Unlike Arylsulfatase E, its activity is not inhibited by warfarin.
The ARSF gene is located on human chromosome X, which contains nearly 153 million base pairs and over 1,000 genes. Chromosome X, together with chromosome Y, determines sex and is associated with conditions such as Turner’s syndrome, color blindness, hemophilia, and Duchenne muscular dystrophy.
