Target Information
Aquaporins (AQP0–AQP10) are membrane water channels found in mammals. They regulate water transport and are involved in renal water absorption, pulmonary secretion, lacrimation, and cerebrospinal fluid balance. AQP5, specifically, facilitates water transport across the apical membrane of type I alveolar epithelial cells in the lung. Some aquaporins (AQP3, AQP7, AQP9, and AQP10) also transport urea and glycerol, while AQP2 is vasopressin-regulated in kidney water reabsorption.
