Target Information

T cell receptors (TCRs) are critical for distinguishing foreign from self-peptides presented by MHC class II molecules, enabling effective adaptive immune responses. Recognition of self-peptides by TCRs is linked to autoimmune diseases, while mutant self-peptides have been associated with tumors. Superantigen engagement of TCRs can lead to toxic shock syndrome. Autoantibodies to TCR V beta segments have been identified in rheumatoid arthritis (RA) and systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), potentially serving as a compensatory immune mechanism. Most human T cells express TCR alpha-beta with CD4 or CD8, while a small subset lacks both (double negative, DN). Increased DN T cells are found in certain autoimmune and immunodeficiency disorders. Gamma-delta T cells, mainly in epithelial tissues, exhibit limited diversity and distinct antigen recognition, with subsets showing antitumor and immunoregulatory activity.
