Target Information
Catalase is a homotetrameric, heme-containing enzyme located in the peroxisomal matrix. It catalyzes the dismutation of hydrogen peroxide into water and oxygen. Human catalase possesses a C-terminal sequence (-KANL) essential for peroxisome targeting. The monomeric form has a molecular weight of approximately 61.3 kDa.
Catalase plays crucial roles in inflammation, mutagenesis, apoptosis prevention, and tumorigenesis. Deficiency of catalase leads to acatalasemia (Takahara’s disease).
