FGFR2는 FGFR 수용체 티로신 키나아제 계열에 속하며, 혈관신생, 세포분화, 조직 재생 등 다양한 세포 기능을 조절합니다. 이 계열은 암, 류머티즘성 관절염, 당뇨성 망막병증 등 여러 질환과 관련이 있습니다. FGFR2 유전자의 돌연변이는 Crouzon, Pfeiffer, Apert, Jackson-Weiss, Beare-Stevenson, Saethre-Chotzen 등 다양한 두개골 융합 증후군과 연관되어 있습니다. 여러 가지 대체 스플라이싱 변형을 통해 다양한 isoform이 생성됩니다.
