Target Information
BCLAF1 is an intracellular, death-promoting transcriptional repressor of survival genes that interacts with several members of the BCL2 family of proteins. It shows homology to the basic leucine zipper (bZIP) and MYB DNA binding domains.
In apoptotic cells, this protein localizes to dot-like structures throughout the nucleus and redistributes to a zone near the nuclear envelope. When overexpressed, BCLAF1 induces apoptosis, which can be suppressed by co-expression of BCL2 proteins.
Also known as BTF, it triggers a proapoptotic signal, potentially helpful to overcome resistance to STI571. BCLAF1 is found to be expressed mostly in skeletal muscles.
