Target Information
Plasminogen is a plasma protein synthesized mostly in the liver. It consists of a single polypeptide chain with a molecular weight of approximately 88.5 kDa. The plasma concentration typically ranges from 70–200 mg/L. Plasminogen is activated by tissue-plasminogen activator, urokinase, and streptokinase to form plasmin through cleavage and release of the preactivation peptide.
Plasmin consists of a heavy (A) chain containing five kringles and a light (B) chain with the active site. It functions as a trypsin-like protease, primarily targeting fibrin, and plays a crucial role in fibrinolysis. Deficiencies in plasmin activity may lead to thrombosis, thrombophlebitis, and pulmonary embolism.
