Target Information
Endothelins are endothelium-derived vasoconstrictor peptides. Endothelin 2 (ET-2) is a protein encoded by the EDN2 gene in humans.
The secreted peptide (~2 kD, 21 amino acids) is produced from the endothelin-2 precursor (~20 kD) and acts as a ligand for endothelin receptors, modulating diverse cell signaling events.
Diseases associated with endothelins include aortic disease and patent ductus arteriosus.
