Target Information
AKT, also known as protein kinase B (PKB) or RAS-alpha, is a serine/threonine kinase involved in regulating metabolism, cell survival, and growth through phosphorylation of multiple proteins. It is activated by insulin, PI3K, IGF1, and other growth factors.
Akt promotes cell survival by inhibiting apoptosis via phosphorylation and inactivation of targets such as forkhead transcription factors and caspase-9.
The AKT pathway is a major focus in cancer drug discovery.
