Target Information
cAMP is a signaling molecule important for a variety of cellular functions. It activates cAMP-dependent protein kinase, which transduces signals through phosphorylation of target proteins. The inactive kinase holoenzyme consists of two regulatory and two catalytic subunits. Upon activation, cAMP causes dissociation into a regulatory dimer and free catalytic monomers.
This gene encodes one of the regulatory subunits, which can be phosphorylated by the activated catalytic subunit. It interacts with and suppresses CREB1 transcriptional activity in activated T cells. Knockout studies in mice indicate this subunit’s role in regulating energy balance and adiposity, and in mediating gene induction and cataleptic behavior induced by haloperidol.
