Target Information
IKBKE is an activator of nuclear factor-kappa-B (NF-κB). Overexpression of IKBKE has been observed in breast cancer cells, and its suppression induces cell death.
NF-κB is a transcription factor mediating gene expression during immune and inflammatory responses. It is associated with Ikappa-B proteins that inhibit its activity in the cytoplasm.
Ikappa-B phosphorylation occurs via the IKK complex (IKK-α, IKK-β, IKK-γ). A novel molecule, IKK-iota/IKK-i (IKK epsilon), is required for NF-κB activation by PMA and T cell receptors, but not by TNF-α or IL-1.
IKK-iota/IKK-i expression is inducible by TNF-α, IL-1, and LPS.
