Target Information
A cluster of genes, BAT1–BAT5, has been localized near the TNF alpha and TNF beta genes. This gene (EHMT2) is mapped near C2 within a 120-kb region that includes an HSP70 gene pair, all within the human MHC class III region. Initially thought to be two genes (NG36 and G9a), later studies confirmed it as a single gene. The encoded protein is involved in intracellular protein-protein interactions. Three alternatively spliced transcript variants exist, two of which are fully described.
