Target Information

Semaphorins are a large family of secreted and membrane-associated proteins involved in axon pathfinding, fasciculation, branching, and target selection. All semaphorins possess a Sema domain and a PSI domain in the N-terminal extracellular region.
Additional sequence motifs C-terminal to the Sema domain allow classification into distinct subfamilies. Transmembrane semaphorins, like secreted ones, act as repulsive axon guidance cues.
SEMA6D is a class 6 vertebrate transmembrane semaphorin exhibiting alternative splicing, with six identified transcript variants. Expression of these isoforms is regulated in a tissue- and development-dependent manner.
