Target Information
Actin is a ubiquitous protein involved in filament formation that constitutes a major part of the cytoskeleton. Actin filaments interact with myosin to facilitate muscle contraction, cell motility, and cytokinesis.
In vertebrates, actin isoforms are divided into three groups: alpha, beta, and gamma.
- Alpha actins: Found in muscle tissues; major components of the contractile apparatus.
- Beta and gamma actins: Present in most cell types; contribute to cytoskeletal structure and internal cell motility.
