Target Information
Anaplastic Lymphoma Receptor Tyrosine Kinase (ALK) belongs to the insulin receptor superfamily and is vital for brain development. Mutations, rearrangements, and amplifications in the ALK gene are associated with tumors such as anaplastic large cell lymphoma, neuroblastoma, and non-small cell lung cancer. Chromosomal rearrangement commonly produces a fusion gene combining ALK (chromosome 2) and NPM (chromosome 5). The NPM-ALK fusion product is oncogenic.
ALK encodes a receptor protein-tyrosine kinase with transmembrane and extracellular domains, absent in the NPM-ALK fusion protein. ALK shows high sequence similarity to LTK and plays an important role in neuronal development and function.
