Cathepsin K는 뼈 재형성과 흡수에 관여하는 리소좀 시스테인 단백질분해효소입니다. Peptidase C1 단백질 패밀리에 속하며, 주로 파골세포(osteoclast)에서 발현됩니다. 또한 일부 유방암 조직에서도 발현되어 종양 침습성에 기여할 수 있습니다. 이 유전자의 돌연변이는 골경화증과 단신을 특징으로 하는 상염색체 열성 질환인 pycnodysostosis의 원인입니다. RNA 편집의 영향을 받을 수 있습니다.
