PKN1 (PRK1)은 protein kinase C 초가족에 속하는 효소로, Rho 계열의 소형 G 단백질에 의해 활성화됩니다. 이 효소는 Rho 의존적 신호 전달 경로를 매개하며, 인지질에 의해서도 활성화될 수 있습니다. PDPK1/PDK1에 의해 인산화되어 인슐린 신호를 액틴 세포골격에 전달할 수 있는 것으로 보고되었습니다. 또한, apoptosis 과정에서 caspase-3 또는 관련 프로테아제에 의해 절단되어 신호전달에 관여할 수 있습니다. 다양한 스플라이싱 변이체가 존재하여 서로 다른 아이소폼을 생성합니다.
