Target Information

Interleukin-6 (IL-6) encodes a cytokine involved in inflammation and B cell maturation.
The protein acts as an endogenous pyrogen, inducing fever in autoimmune or infectious conditions.
It is primarily expressed at sites of acute and chronic inflammation, secreted into serum, and triggers a transcriptional inflammatory response via the interleukin 6 receptor (IL-6Rα).
IL-6 function is implicated in various inflammation-related diseases such as diabetes mellitus, systemic juvenile rheumatoid arthritis, Kaposi sarcoma, and rheumatoid arthritis.
Elevated IL-6 levels have also been observed in viral infections, including COVID-19 (SARS-CoV-2).
