Target Information
GFAP (Glial fibrillary acidic protein)은 class III intermediate filament 단백질 계열에 속하며, 중추신경계의 astrocyte 및 특정 astroglia, 말초 신경계의 위성세포와 비수초성 슈반세포에서 강하게 발현됩니다. 또한 신경줄기세포에서도 GFAP 발현이 높습니다. GFAP 항체는 astrocytic cell의 마커로 유용하며, 다양한 뇌종양에서 GFAP가 강하게 발현됩니다. 그 외에도 수정체 상피, 간의 Kupffer 세포, 일부 타액선 종양 세포, 적혈구에서도 보고된 바 있습니다. GFAP는 발달 과정에서 astrocyte와 다른 glial cell을 구분하는 데 사용되며, GFAP 유전자의 돌연변이는 Alexander disease를 유발합니다. 대체 스플라이싱으로 인해 여러 isoform이 존재합니다.
