Target Information
GFAP (Glial fibrillary acidic protein)은 class III intermediate filament 단백질 계열에 속하며, 중추신경계의 성상세포 및 특정 astroglia에서 강하게 발현됩니다. 또한 말초신경계의 위성세포와 비수초화 Schwann 세포에서도 발현됩니다. 신경줄기세포 역시 GFAP를 강하게 발현하며, GFAP 항체는 astrocytic cell의 표지자로 매우 유용합니다. 다양한 뇌종양에서 GFAP가 높은 수준으로 발현되며, 렌즈상피, 간의 Kupffer 세포, 일부 침샘 종양 세포, 적혈구에서도 보고되었습니다. GFAP는 발달 과정에서 astrocyte와 다른 glial cell을 구분하는 표지자로 사용됩니다. GFAP 유전자 변이는 희귀한 신경교세포 질환인 Alexander disease를 유발하며, 대체 스플라이싱을 통해 여러 isoform을 생성합니다.
