Target Information
GFAP (Glial fibrillary acidic protein)은 class III intermediate filament 단백질 패밀리에 속하며, 주로 중추신경계의 성상세포(astrocyte) 및 특정 astroglia, 말초신경계의 위성세포(satellite cell)와 비수초성 슈반세포(non-myelinating Schwann cell)에서 발현됩니다. 또한 신경줄기세포(neural stem cell)에서도 강하게 발현됩니다.
GFAP 항체는 성상세포 표지(marker)로 매우 유용하며, 다양한 뇌종양(astrocytic origin)에서도 높은 수준으로 발현됩니다. GFAP는 수정체 상피세포, 간의 Kupffer 세포, 일부 침샘 종양세포, 적혈구 등에서도 보고되었습니다.
GFAP는 발달 과정 중 성상세포와 다른 교세포를 구분하는 데 사용되며, GFAP 유전자의 돌연변이는 Alexander disease(희귀한 성상세포 질환)를 유발할 수 있습니다. 또한 대체 스플라이싱에 의해 여러 이소폼이 생성됩니다.
