Product Specific Information
The antibody was affinity-purified from rabbit antiserum by affinity chromatography using an epitope-specific immunogen. The purity is greater than 95% as determined by SDS-PAGE.
Target Information
Proteins of the matrix metalloproteinase (MMP) family are involved in the breakdown of extracellular matrix in normal physiological processes such as embryonic development, reproduction, and tissue remodeling, as well as in disease processes including arthritis and metastasis.
Most MMPs are secreted as inactive proproteins that are activated upon cleavage by extracellular proteinases.
The MMP25 protein belongs to the membrane-type MMP (MT-MMP) subfamily and is attached to the plasma membrane via a glycosylphosphatidylinositol (GPI) anchor.
In response to bacterial infection or inflammation, this protein is thought to inactivate alpha-1 proteinase inhibitor, aiding neutrophil migration to inflammatory sites.
It may also contribute to tumor invasion and metastasis through activation of MMP2.
The gene was previously referred to as MMP20 but has been renamed MMP25.
