Cyclic nucleotide phosphodiesterases (PDEs)는 5′,3′-cyclic nucleotides인 cAMP와 cGMP를 각각의 nucleoside 5′-monophosphates로 가수분해합니다.
포유류 PDE는 기질 친화성, 억제제 감수성, 조절 방식, 아미노산 서열 유사성에 따라 여러 계열로 분류됩니다.
PDE8 계열은 cAMP 특이적이며 IBMX(3-isobutyl-1-methyl-xanthine)에 민감하지 않은 PDE를 포함하며, PDE8B가 대표적입니다.
모든 PDE는 보존된 C-terminal catalytic 영역과 개별적인 조절 특성을 부여하는 N-terminal domain을 공유합니다.
