Product Specific Information

  • This antibody does not react with Mouse or Rat.
  • For Immunohistochemistry (PFA fixed): incubate antibody for 30 min at room temperature.
  • Staining of formalin-fixed tissues requires heating tissue sections in 10 mM Tris with 1 mM EDTA (pH 9.0) for 45 min at 95°C, followed by cooling at room temperature for 20 min.

Target Information

Vimentin is a developmentally regulated intermediate filament protein (IFP) found in cells of mesenchymal origin. It plays a role in intracellular transport between the nucleus and plasma membrane and is co-expressed with desmin during early cellular development. Vimentin is later replaced by tissue-specific IFPs. It is implicated in steroid synthesis by serving as a storage network for cholesterol-containing lipid droplets. Phosphorylation of vimentin by protein kinase induces filament breakdown and cytoskeletal reorganization, facilitating cholesterol transport to mitochondria and enhancing steroid production.
