UBA6 (UBE1L2, MOP-4)은 유비퀴틴(ubiquitin)에 특이적인 새로운 E1 효소로, 유비퀴틴 활성화 E1 패밀리에 속합니다. 이 효소는 유비퀴틴을 기질 단백질에 공유적으로 결합시키는 연쇄 반응의 일부로 작용합니다.
UBA6는 먼저 ATP를 이용해 유비퀴틴의 카르복시 말단 글라이신 잔기를 아데닐화한 후, 이를 E1의 시스테인 잔기에 결합시켜 유비퀴틴–E1 티오에스터와 자유 AMP를 형성합니다.
이 효소의 아이소폼은 정자형성과 남성 생식력에 영향을 미치며, 인간 단핵구에서 높은 발현을 보입니다.
