DRP1(Dynamin-related protein 1)은 인간 미토콘드리아 분열에 관여하는 단백질로, 정상 상태 및 세포자멸사(apoptosis) 과정에서 미토콘드리아 분열에 중요한 역할을 합니다. DRP1은 세포 내 미토콘드리아의 적절한 분포에 필수적이며, 돌연변이 뉴런에서는 시냅스 부근에 미토콘드리아가 거의 존재하지 않습니다. 따라서 DRP1은 시냅스에서 미토콘드리아의 역할을 연구하는 데 유용한 유전학적 도구로 활용됩니다.
