Target Information
The Teashirt zinc finger homeobox (TSHZ) family comprises evolutionarily conserved transcription factors. In Drosophila, they are active in specific body parts for patterning, while their function in vertebrates is less clear. In mice, TSHZ proteins show distinct expression patterns in the developing and adult brain, suggesting roles in regional identity and cell type specification.
TSHZ3 and TSHZ1 interact with FE65, an adapter protein that binds to amyloid precursor protein (APP) in neurons. Together with SET and histone deacetylases, they form a gene-silencing complex targeting caspase-4. Recent studies suggest potential involvement of TSHZ proteins in carcinogenesis.
