Target Information
Cytokeratins are a subfamily of intermediate filament proteins and are characterized by a remarkable biochemical diversity, represented in human epithelial tissues by at least 20 different polypeptides. They range in molecular weight between approximately 40 kDa and 68 kDa and have isoelectric pH values between 4.9 and 7.8.
Human cytokeratins are numbered 1 to 20, and their expression patterns are characteristic of epithelial type and differentiation stage. Cytokeratin subtype expression assists in distinguishing epithelial malignancies and is valuable in immunohistochemistry, cytopathology, and flow cytometric assays.
