Target Information

This gene encodes a member of the DEAD box protein family, characterized by the conserved motif Asp-Glu-Ala-Asp (DEAD). These proteins are putative RNA helicases involved in RNA secondary structure remodeling, including:

• Translation initiation
• Nuclear and mitochondrial splicing
• Ribosome and spliceosome assembly

Some family members are associated with embryogenesis, spermatogenesis, and cellular growth and division.
The encoded protein can shuttle between the nucleus and cytoplasm and exhibits RNA-independent ATPase activity.
Two alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding distinct isoforms have been identified for this gene.
