Target Information

This gene encodes a member of the DEAD box protein family. DEAD box proteins, characterized by the conserved motif Asp-Glu-Ala-Asp (DEAD), are putative RNA helicases. They are implicated in numerous cellular processes involving RNA secondary structure alterations, such as translation initiation, nuclear and mitochondrial splicing, and ribosome and spliceosome assembly. Some members are associated with embryogenesis, spermatogenesis, and cellular growth and division. The encoded protein can shuttle between the nucleus and cytoplasm and exhibits RNA-independent ATPase activity. Two alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding distinct isoforms have been identified.
