Target Information
cAMP is a signaling molecule important for a variety of cellular functions. It activates cAMP-dependent protein kinase (AMPK), which transduces signals through phosphorylation of target proteins. The inactive holoenzyme of AMPK consists of two regulatory and two catalytic subunits. Upon cAMP binding, the holoenzyme dissociates into regulatory dimers and free catalytic monomers. In humans, four regulatory and three catalytic subunits of AMPK have been identified. PRKACB belongs to the Ser/Thr protein kinase family and functions as a catalytic subunit of AMPK.
