Voltage-gated potassium (Kv) channels are a complex class of ion channels with diverse physiological functions, including regulation of neurotransmitter release, heart rate, insulin secretion, neuronal excitability, epithelial electrolyte transport, smooth muscle contraction, and cell volume.
The KV4.2 (KCND2) gene encodes a member of the voltage-gated, shal-related potassium channel subfamily. These channels mediate rapidly inactivating, A-type outward potassium currents critical for the repolarization phase of the action potential.
