Target Information
The HTR3A gene encodes subunit A of the type 3 receptor for 5-hydroxytryptamine (serotonin), which belongs to the ligand-gated ion channel receptor superfamily. This receptor mediates fast, depolarizing responses in neurons upon activation. Functional receptor activity typically requires heteromeric assembly of A and B subunits; single subunits alone exhibit low conductance and response amplitude. Multiple alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been identified.
