FABP1 (Fatty Acid Binding Protein 1) encodes a liver fatty acid binding protein.
Fatty acid binding proteins are small, highly conserved cytoplasmic proteins that bind long-chain fatty acids and other hydrophobic ligands.
FABP1 and FABP6 (ileal fatty acid binding protein) can also bind bile acids.
These proteins are involved in fatty acid uptake, transport, and metabolism.
