Target Information
ATP2C1, also known as secretory pathway Ca²⁺/Mn²⁺-ATPase (SPCA1), belongs to the family of P-type cation transport ATPases.
This magnesium-dependent enzyme catalyzes ATP hydrolysis coupled with calcium transport from the cytosol to the Golgi lumen.
Defects in ATP2C1 cause Hailey-Hailey disease, an autosomal dominant disorder characterized by persistent blisters and skin erosions.
Unlike the related ATP2C2 protein, ATP2C1 is ubiquitously expressed and shows a lower maximal turnover rate for Ca²⁺-ATPase reaction but a higher affinity for cytosolic Ca²⁺.
Recent studies suggest ATP2C1 regulates IGF1R processing in tumor progression of basal breast cancers.
