Product Specific Information

The antibody was affinity-purified from rabbit antiserum by affinity chromatography using epitope-specific immunogen. The purity is >95% (by SDS-PAGE).

Target Information

The tachykinins are a family of small peptides that include the neurotransmitters substance P, neurokinin A, and neurokinin B. These act on three related but distinct seven-transmembrane G-protein coupled receptors. The NK-3 receptor (NK3R) has the greatest affinity for neurokinin B and is highly expressed in the supraoptic and paraventricular nuclei. Upon ligand binding, NK3R activates a phosphatidylinositol-calcium second messenger system, likely leading to the release of vasopressin and oxytocin. NK3R may be involved in learning and memory, as knockout mice show cognitive deficits. Although NK3R has been suggested to regulate vagal afferent relay neurons, it is more likely activated by substance P or neurokinin A, since airway nerves do not express neurokinin B.
