Target Information
Collagen IV is a major component of the basement membrane in tissues such as kidneys, lungs, and skin. It forms a network-like structure that supports and stabilizes surrounding tissues. Collagen IV consists of three alpha chains encoded by the COL4A1, COL4A2, and COL4A3 genes. Mutations in these genes are associated with disorders including Alport syndrome and Goodpasture syndrome, which primarily affect the kidneys and lungs.
