Target Information
The Urotensin-II receptor is highly expressed in the heart and pancreas, and also in artery and smooth muscle. Low transcript levels have been identified in the brain, particularly in the thalamus and superior occipital gyrus.
G-protein Coupled Receptors (GPCRs) form one of the largest families of signaling molecules, sharing a common structure of seven membrane-spanning helices. These receptors exist in active and inactive forms and mediate signaling through G-proteins and downstream effectors.
GPCRs are key pharmacological targets, with several major drugs such as Zyprexa and Claritin developed as GPCR-targeted therapeutics.
