Target Information
ERKs are a subfamily of MAPKs involved in cell growth and differentiation. Extracellular signal-regulated kinase 8 (Erk8) is a large MAP kinase regulated by serum and the c-Src tyrosine kinase. ERK8 down-regulates glucocorticoid receptor transactivation via Hic-5 and can negatively regulate androgen receptor and GRα co-activation in a kinase-independent manner. This suggests a broader role for ERK8 in regulating nuclear receptors beyond estrogen receptor α. Erk8 also acts as a novel effector of RET/PTC3, implicating it in RET biological functions.
