Target Information
Desmosomes are cell-cell junctions found in epithelial, myocardial, and certain other cell types. Three desmoglein subfamily members have been identified, all belonging to the cadherin cell adhesion molecule superfamily. These genes are clustered on chromosome 18. Desmoglein 2 has been identified as the autoantigen in pemphigus vulgaris, an autoimmune skin blistering disease.
