Target Information
The Gelsolin protein binds to the plus ends of actin monomers and filaments to regulate actin assembly and disassembly. It is a calcium-regulated protein involved in cytoskeletal dynamics. Mutations in this gene are associated with familial amyloidosis Finnish type (FAF). Multiple transcript variants encoding several isoforms have been identified.
