Target Information
Protein kinase C (PKC) is a family of serine- and threonine-specific protein kinases activated by calcium and diacylglycerol. PKC family members phosphorylate diverse protein targets and participate in numerous cellular signaling pathways. They also serve as receptors for phorbol esters, a class of tumor promoters. Each PKC member has a distinct expression pattern and function. The PRKD3 kinase can be rapidly activated by G protein-coupled receptor agonists, localizes in both cytoplasm and nucleus, and shows enhanced nuclear accumulation upon activation. It can also be activated following B-cell antigen receptor (BCR) engagement, requiring phospholipase C gamma and other PKC family members.
