Target Information
MTCH2 is a member of the mitochondrial carrier protein family that catalyzes substrate exchange across the inner mitochondrial membrane. It is targeted by Bid, a pro-apoptotic Bcl-2 family member, in response to apoptotic signals, suggesting a key role in mitochondrial apoptosis. Apoptosis is crucial for development, tissue homeostasis, and removal of damaged cells, and its dysregulation is implicated in diseases such as cancer. The Bcl-2 family consists of proteins that either inhibit or promote apoptosis.
