Target Information
Profilin is a small (12–15 kDa) phosphoinositides and poly-L-proline binding protein involved in signal transduction and actin filament dynamics.
There are two mammalian profilins with similar biochemical properties but distinct expression patterns:
- Profilin I: Highly expressed in most tissues except skeletal muscle
- Profilin II: Predominantly expressed in brain, lower levels in skeletal muscle, uterus, and kidney
Profilin is mainly cytosolic, concentrated in dynamic membrane areas such as the leading edge and ruffling membranes.
