Target Information
CD36, also known as scavenger receptor class B member 3, is a membrane protein expressed on macrophages, platelets, adipocytes, and other cell types. It plays a key role in lipid metabolism, inflammation, and atherosclerosis, mediating recognition and uptake of oxidized LDL, long-chain fatty acids, and apoptotic cells. CD36 also contributes to malaria pathogenesis and serves as a receptor for thrombospondin. Mutations in this gene are associated with platelet glycoprotein deficiency and coronary heart disease.
