Integrins are heterodimeric integral membrane proteins composed of an alpha and a beta chain. The integrin alpha V chain undergoes post-translational cleavage to yield disulfide-linked heavy and light chains that combine with multiple integrin beta chains (β1, β3, β5, β6, and β8) to form distinct integrins. Among these, the αVβ3 integrin, also known as the Vitronectin Receptor (VNR), is well-studied for its role in cell adhesion and signal transduction. Integrins are key mediators of cell–matrix interactions and intracellular signaling.
