Target Information
The sodium-potassium-chloride cotransporter isoform 2 (NKCC2) is kidney-specific and located on the apical membrane of the thick ascending limb of Henle’s loop and the macula densa.
It mediates NaCl resorption with a stoichiometry of 1Na:1K:2Cl and is sensitive to diuretics such as furosemide and bumetanide.
Mutations or defects in this gene can lead to Bartter-like syndromes.
